Restoration
Generally speaking, all duct work that has
been contaminated with any water from any
source will require replacement.
Theoretically it is possible to pump water
out of metallic ducting, but it is not
possible to pump water out of a flexible
ducting which is used in almost all domestic
heating and cooling systems. Even metal
ducting has insulation either on the inside
or outside wall of the ducting and once wet
it must be replaced.
Remove duct from heater and test
The heater (if external) is isolated from
the duct work as soon as possible so as not
to adversely affect the heaters longevity.
Moisture is the enemy of the ducted heating
units long after the water damage has been
resolved.
Remove ducting
All the affected ducting is removed from the
sub floor or from the roof cavity and
disposed of.
Sub Floor Drying
Once the ducting has been removed the
subfloor is dried as quickly as possible so
as not to prolong the affects of the water
on wooden flooring, plaster walls, and the
sub structure of the dwelling. This can
include pumping out all loose water.
Run New Ducting
Once the sub floor is dried, the new ducting
will be run and then connected to the heater
and finally, tested.
